Yoga Bolsters

Yoga Bolsters are a great accessory to improve your stretch and relax for those long yin yoga poses.

Yoga bolsters have been used to provide extra support for poses and increase a stretch since the 1960’s when B.K.S. Ivengar introduced them to help his students achieve better poses and provide comfort during long seated sessions. Now they are almost a necessity for meditation and restorative yin yoga classes.

The yoga bolsters provide comfortable support to parts of the body during a yoga class and encourages a deeper relaxation. It is particularly useful for people with stiff or tense backs, during pregnancy or when recovering from injury, as it helps one get into a pose safely. Most yoga studios supply bolsters for meditation and yin or restorative yoga classes. If you are at home and don’t have a bolster, a firm pillow or two can be a helpful substitute. However, you will find that a yoga bolster is firmer and more practical compared with a pillow.
